It has to stop being expected.  That the job is so immense that we can’t have an outside life.

It has to stop being expected by ourselves.  We set ourselves up for it sometimes and don’t know how to say: “No.”

The: “But don’t you care about your students?”  when we are being given another thing to heavy our load needs to stop.

The “You’re a teacher?  Oh god bless!” needs to stop.  Instead:  “You’re a teacher?  I want to be a teacher!  You are so lucky!  What an amazing job!” needs to start.

Teaching is not the only job where this happens.  It’s not the only job that you stay late and then take more work home.  Props out there to social workers and nurses.  Mad props.
